The following images were gathered on the foreshores of an ancient volcanic island, Gometra, which sits within the Staffa Archipelago of the Inner Hebrides. The position of the island within the Atlantic, at the precipice of the Isle of Mull and with numerous bays, means Gometra has become a comb for the ocean, raking through dark northern waters as they pass by rugged igneous outcroppings.
This series illustrates a sense of decay, legacy, memory and time at the point where land and sea meet and exchange histories, mutually engendering one another through endless tidal revolutions. Evidence of wrongdoing piles up, meanwhile the Earth gives back to itself, despite it all; the bones of decomposing creatures slowly joining the machair, shellsand and maerl that make up this elemental landscape.
